DBS
Academic Appointments practices a secure recruitment process to ensure that all staff are fully cleared to fulfil roles that involve working with children and vulnerable adults. As part of this, we are an approved Registered Body with the Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS).

What are the types of Disclosures?
There are two levels of disclosure checks available:
Standard: Standard Disclosures are mainly for posts that involve minimal contact with children or vulnerable adults. These may also be issued for people entering certain professions that involve positions of trust, such as legal and accounting.
Enhanced: Enhanced Disclosures are for posts that involve regularly caring for, training, supervising or being in sole charge of children or vulnerable adults. These would be issued for people such as teachers, youth leaders and sports coaches.
An Enhanced Disclosure check is undertaken for all education staff who register with us for work.
As an approved Registered Body with the DBS we are also able to undertake DBS Standard or Enhanced Disclosure checks on behalf of other individuals.
How do I apply for a DBS Disclosure with Academic Appointments?
Once you have clicked on the Request Application Form button, Academic Appointments will post out a DBS Information Pack to you. This pack includes the DBS Disclosure application form together with instructions for filling in the form and outlining acceptable evidence of identification and current address.
When you have received the information pack, please contact us to arrange a suitable time for you to bring your completed application form, together with proof of identification and current address into our office for validation.
What happens next?
The disclosure application form is sent to the DBS immediately to begin the checking process.
When the DBS has completed the Disclosure checking process, two Disclosure certificates are issued – the Registered Body Copy is issued to Academic Appointments and the Applicant Copy is sent directly to you at your home address.
For more detailed information of the complete DBS Application process please see https://www.gov.uk/disclosure-barring-service-check/overview
N.B We apply for an Enhanced Disclosure for all education staff who work directly with Academic Appointments, as part of our standard registration process.
How long does a DBS Disclosure take?
The DBS aims to have checks completed within 4 to 6 weeks, although they can sometimes take less time and sometimes take longer.
The progress of your application is regularly checked by Academic Appointments and any issues or delays will be discussed with you.
