Being a Supply Teacher as an NQT

I was in my final year of University and I was very hectic with my final teaching practice, assignments and exams. I was determined to achieve the best result possible but I also wanted to secure my first Primary teaching position for September! I spent several hours working on my supporting statement and filling out application forms for the Local Authorities I was thinking of working in. My placements were in a diverse range of schools and I wasn’t sure what school was right for me. After much thought, I decided to register with Academic Appointments as a supply teacher. I knew this would give me the opportunity to teach in a range of schools to find what is right for me. Academic Appointments spent the time to really get to know me and my specialism. Within three weeks of being a supply teacher, I found the school that was right for me. A two-day booking turned into a maternity cover, and was then extended for a further term. This was a great opportunity for me to find the right school with first-hand experience teaching there, leading to them choosing me. I would highly recommend doing supply to find the perfect school for you and to develop your experience. You also get a chance to see different approaches, planning and marking to further develop your skills and knowledge.

Drawing on my personal experience I would like to help you! I am holding a career clinic on Tuesday the 4thof April, so if you would like free advice about supply teaching or guidance on perfecting your CV and your supporting statement make sure to come along. We will also be offering an express registration, and I’ll even be giving away some fab free resources!

I look forward to meeting you!
