Supporting NQTs

As the time approaches for teaching graduates to find their first role within education, we asked Sally, Permanent Recruitment Consultant to write about her experience as a former teaching graduate herself!

I trained as a Primary School Teacher so I know just how daunting and scary the application process can be. We know just how busy you must be with your final placements and all the assignments you have on your plate, and sometimes it feels like there just isn’t enough time in the day to research and apply to schools on top of everything else, so this is why I’m here to help!

A lot of people think that agencies are just used to help you find short term and day to day work – I myself used to be under this same impression - but this is not the case at all! Academic Appointments have a specialist permanent service focusing purely on finding teachers permanent posts in schools.

We want to make your life easier – applying for your first teaching job should be such an exciting time and not filled with dread. We can hopefully help you in just a few simple steps.

Firstly, I will speak with you to discuss your personal requirements and ITT experience e.g. Subject Speciality / Preferred Key Stage / Location of School / Type of School. I will then proactively contact schools (with your say so!) that we think would be a good fit for you, and speak with them about your highlights. I’ll constantly maintain contact with you throughout this process. If there are any schools in particular you would like me to focus my attention on, just say the word! At the end of the day, I’m here to help you secure your dream job, so everything I do will be focused around your specific needs.

As we have a great relationship with the schools we work with, we often hear about permanent teaching posts before they even get advertised – so we can often save schools their advertising fees by coming straight to us – and you will hear about jobs before they go to advert!

After qualifying as a Primary School Teacher – I only wish I had used an agency like Academic Appointments to help me secure my first teaching post – from the contacts we have with schools, as well as the knowledge of the schools and the upcoming posts, to the advice we can offer, it’s a no- brainer!

I attend many Teacher Trainee Fairs and hold workshops at Universities to meet with NQTs and teaching graduates, and let you know of any jobs we are actively working on for September. Now is the time schools are advertising for their September posts, so it’s important we get in there fast!

Last September, 29% of the permanent appointments we made were NQTs – and we are proud to say that 100% of these have completed their 1st term of induction and are still happy in their posts.

If you are qualifying this summer as a Teacher – whether it be Early Years / Primary / Secondary, please give me a call on 0113 390 1006 and I’d love to work with you to help you secure your first teaching post.

Here is just one testimonial from an NQT who was happily placed in a school last year;

“I was reluctant to seek work through an agency at first, however Academic Appointments were hugely considerate of my preferences and approached me with a position that they thought would suit me. The position couldn't have better matched what I was looking for and the support I received in the process of applying was lovely- and very much appreciated!” Krystina, Maths NQT who is currently enjoying her 2nd term of induction.
