SEMH Teacher

Academic Appointments are working alongside an alternative provision in the Wakefield area who are looking to appoint a SEMH Teacher.
The provision works in partnership with local primary and secondary schools to provide an alternative education for SEMH pupils who have been permanently excluded from mainstream school. This is an exciting opportunity to join an expanding and successful provision that offers excellent professional development opportunities for its staff.
This particular role is to work within one of their smaller provisions to support KS3 &KS4 pupils that have a mixture of challenging behaviours and some undiagnosed conditions like Autism, Asperger’s and ADHD. School are keen to work with an individual who is resilient and passionate with strong behaviour management skills.
Team Teach training is desirable for this setting. If you have not gained a Team Teach qualification before, candidates would be encouraged to complete this training through ourselves.
The role is full-time and due to start immediately, initially for a term. However, there is the possibility that it could extended for the right candidate.
  • Previous experience working in a Pupil Referral Unit or challenging behaviour is essential
  • QTS or equivalent qualification and/or experience
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Team Teach training is desirable
  • Two satisfactory references
  • A valid DBS certificate, or be willing to obtain one
